Former Himachal CM Criticizes Congress Government for Blaming Center

On Tuesday, Jai Ram Thakur, the former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh and opposition leader, accused the Congress government led by Sukhu of consistently blaming the central government for the state's economic difficulties, despite receiving substantial assistance from it. He expressed confidence that the BJP would return to power with a significant majority in the upcoming assembly elections. Speaking to the media after attending the 120th birth anniversary celebration of Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar, the first Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Thakur paid tribute to the founding leader, stating that his vision continues to inspire the development of the state today. He emphasized that the current state of Himachal Pradesh is largely a result of Dr. Y.S. Parmar's leadership, and his contributions to the formation and growth of the state will always be remembered, serving as motivation for future generations.

In response to Chief Minister Sukhu's criticism regarding the cessation of the Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG), Thakur clarified that this grant was discontinued for all states following the recommendations of the Finance Commission, not just for Himachal Pradesh. He stated, 'The Revenue Deficit Grant was not stopped solely for Himachal Pradesh; it was halted for all states.' He noted that the central government has provided alternative financial assistance, including ₹3,920 crores approved under a special assistance scheme for hill states, of which ₹2,400 crores have already been issued to Himachal Pradesh as an interest-free loan for 50 years. Thakur urged the Chief Minister to acknowledge this support instead of repeatedly blaming the center.

Thakur further alleged that most of the ongoing development projects in Himachal Pradesh are funded through central government-sponsored schemes, accusing the state government of failing to recognize this assistance. He remarked that the current development in the state is primarily due to the initiatives and funding from the central government. Despite the continuous support from the center, the Congress government neither acknowledges it nor expresses gratitude. He pointed out that with nearly four years of governance completed, the Chief Minister should focus on showcasing the achievements of his administration rather than attacking the BJP and the central government.

Thakur concluded by stating that after almost four years in power, the Chief Minister should inform the public about the accomplishments of his government instead of placing blame on the BJP and the central government.
