During the ongoing IPL 2025 season, Shivalik Sharma, a former batter for the Mumbai Indians, has been accused of rape, leading to a case being filed against him in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The complaint was lodged by a woman who claimed that after their engagement, Sharma entered into a sexual relationship with her but later retracted his commitment.
Investigation Underway
ACP Anand Singh Rajpurohit, who is overseeing the investigation, confirmed that the case has been officially registered at the Kudi Bhagatasani Police Station.
Details of the Allegations
"A woman from Sector 2, Kudi Bhagatasani, has accused cricketer Shivalik Sharma. She met him during a walk in Vadodara in February 2023, and their friendship evolved into a romantic relationship, with hours of phone conversations. Their families met in 2023, leading to their engagement. Following the engagement, they engaged in physical relations,” stated Rajpurohit as reported by a Media Channel.
The police disclosed that in August 2024, Sharma invited the woman to Baroda, where his parents informed her that the relationship could not continue. Feeling deceived, she filed a complaint alleging rape. Medical examinations and her court testimony have been documented, and law enforcement is actively searching for Sharma.
Who is Shivalik Sharma?
Shivalik Sharma, hailing from Baroda, was acquired by the Mumbai Indians during the IPL 2024 mini auction for a base price of INR 20 lakh. Although he did not participate in any matches for the team, he was recognized as a promising left-handed batter emerging from domestic cricket.
He played under the captaincy of Krunal Pandya for Baroda and has respectable statistics across various formats. In first-class cricket, he has accumulated 1,087 runs in 18 matches, including three centuries and five fifties, with an average of 43.48 and a highest score of 188. In T20 matches, he has scored 349 runs from 17 games at a strike rate of 147.88.
Recently, he participated in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy, scoring 484 and 155 runs respectively, and also made 235 runs from nine innings at a strike rate of 155.62 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
