Deepak Anand, the Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety in Chamba, announced that a targeted inspection was carried out today along NH-154A at Saru and Udaipur. During this operation, approximately 25 to 30 vehicles, including buses transporting sweets and various food products, were stopped and inspected thoroughly.
The inspection revealed that around 2 quintals of sweets of various types were deemed unfit for consumption. These sweets were found to be overly colored, spoiled, and infested with insects. Additionally, they were being transported in filthy and unsanitary containers intended for public distribution.
To prevent the distribution of these hazardous food items, the Food Safety Department destroyed the entire stock on-site.
Anand also mentioned that as part of the ongoing special drive during this festive month, 24 samples of assorted sweets have been collected for laboratory analysis.
In a related matter, two samples of paneer collected last month, suspected to be analogue paneer, were confirmed to be substandard. Notices have been issued to the relevant vendors for legal action.
The Food Safety Department urges the public to be cautious when purchasing sweets and other food products, especially during the festive season, and has committed to enforcing strict measures against those selling or transporting unsafe food items.
