Flood Situation in Andhra Pradesh: Water Levels Decline in Bhadrachalam

Current Flood Status in Andhra Pradesh

Amaravati, August 2 - The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) announced on Sunday that the water level of the Godavari River in Bhadrachalam has started to decrease, leading to the withdrawal of the second-level warning in the area. However, significant floodwaters continue to flow at the Dowleswaram Barrage.

According to the authority, the recorded water levels are 47.9 feet in Bhadrachalam, 21.5 meters in Kunavaram, and 13.3 meters in Polavaram. At the Dowleswaram Barrage, the inflow and outflow of water have been measured at 14.6 lakh cusecs. This barrage is located near Rajahmundry in the East Godavari district.

Prakhar Jain, the Managing Director of APSDMA, stated in an official release, “The flood flow in the Godavari River at Bhadrachalam is decreasing, and the second-level warning has been lifted.”

Despite this, he emphasized that a large volume of floodwater is still flowing at the Dowleswaram Barrage. Jain urged the public to avoid crossing swollen streams and submerged bridges and to assist the officials engaged in rescue and relief operations. He also warned that, given the current flood conditions, activities such as traveling, bathing, swimming, or fishing in the Godavari River should be avoided, as they pose significant risks.
