Flood Situation Improves in Assam, Yet Thousands Remain Affected

Guwahati, August 2 - The flood situation in Assam showed signs of improvement on Sunday. However, approximately 135,000 individuals are still affected across five districts. Tragically, the death toll has risen to 85 this year due to flooding, following the loss of three more lives.

This information was released in an official bulletin. It detailed that all three fatalities occurred in the Sivasagar district. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reported that over 136,200 people have been impacted by the floods in the districts of Charaideo, Dhemaji, Golaghat, Jorhat, and Sivasagar.

On Saturday, the number of affected individuals was around 180,000 across five districts. Sivasagar is the hardest-hit area, with more than 55,000 residents affected, followed by Charaideo with 40,000 and Jorhat with 22,000.

According to ASDMA, 335 villages are submerged, and 15,422 hectares of agricultural land have suffered damage. The administration is operating 54 relief camps and distribution centers in these five districts, providing care for 13,771 individuals. In Numaligarh, the water level of the Dhansiri River has surpassed the danger mark.
