Flight Disruptions at IGI Airport Due to Dense Fog
Flight Operations Affected by Dense Fog
In light of significant disruptions caused by dense fog, Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport issued a new update for travelers on Tuesday, following the cancellation of 250 flights the previous day. The latest advisory from IGI Airport indicated that flight operations are gradually returning to normal; however, delays and disruptions in arrivals and departures may still occur. Passengers are encouraged to check with their respective airlines for accurate and timely information. The airport also mentioned that staff are available at all terminals to assist travelers and provide necessary support. IGI Airport expressed gratitude to passengers for their cooperation and understanding during this challenging time.
Significant Flight Cancellations Due to Poor Visibility
This update comes after severe disruptions in flight operations at Delhi Airport due to dense fog on Monday. According to officials, 228 flights were canceled, including 131 departures and 97 arrivals, due to low visibility in the early hours. Additionally, five flights were diverted to nearby airports because landing conditions were deemed unsafe. Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) stated that its ground teams are collaborating with airlines and other stakeholders to assist passengers across all terminals. Ground staff are actively helping travelers and providing necessary support.
Civil Aviation Ministry Issues Advisory
Earlier, the Civil Aviation Ministry advised travelers to verify the status of their flights before heading to the airport. In a post on social media, the ministry emphasized that air traffic control and ground teams are continuously working to minimize disruptions, reiterating that passenger safety remains the top priority. Airlines, including IndiGo and Air India, have issued warnings to passengers regarding potential delays due to dense fog affecting Delhi and other parts of northern India. Air India announced the cancellation of approximately 40 flights, citing that poor visibility has impacted operations for all airlines. Other airlines have not disclosed the exact number of canceled or delayed flights.
