Five Militants Arrested in Manipur for Extortion Activities

Arrests Made in Multiple Districts

Authorities in Manipur have apprehended five militants on charges of extortion from various regions. The police disclosed this information on Saturday.


The arrests occurred on Friday across the districts of Thoubal, Kakching, Imphal West, and Tengnoupal.


One individual affiliated with the 'United People's Party of Kangleipak' (UPPK) was taken into custody from Langmeidong Maning Leikai in Kakching district. Police identified the suspect as Akhoijam Robinson, aged 51, who is accused of extorting money from schools in Imphal. A .32 caliber pistol was seized from him.


Additionally, a member of the banned 'Kangleipak Communist Party' (Noyon) was arrested at the Thoubal Mela Ground in Thoubal district. Furthermore, one member each of PREPAK (Pro) and PREPAK was detained near the India-Myanmar border in Tengnoupal district.


The police also reported the arrest of a member of KCP (PWG) from Longol Game village in Imphal West district. In a separate operation in Khalong, Baruni Hill in Imphal East district, security forces recovered three vehicles, a radio set, 13 handheld radio wireless sets, seven wireless set antennas, a solar charger converter, and three solar panels, among other items.
