A Cycling Initiative for Community Wellness

The Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative, which began in December 2024, has become a hallmark of community fitness events. The 79th edition took place on Sunday, organized by Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, and was themed around the 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan' (NMBA). This event turned the national capital into a vibrant celebration of healthy living and active lifestyles.

Cycling Rally Promotes Healthy Choices

Hosted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports as part of the Fit India Movement, the event featured a 5-km cycling rally. Over 800 participants gathered at the Sports Authority of India campus, located at the iconic Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Swimming Complex. The rally aimed to emphasize the importance of sports and fitness as essential tools for guiding society, especially the youth, towards healthier lifestyles and away from substance abuse.

Commitment to a Drug-Free India

A significant moment during the event was when participants, including children, youth, seniors, and fitness enthusiasts, took the 'Nasha Mukt Bharat' pledge. This pledge, provided by the Department of Social Justice, reinforced their dedication to leading healthy, addiction-free lives and contributing to a drug-free India.

A Family Fitness Festival

The event also featured a Yoga Zone, organized in collaboration with Yogasana Bharat and the Ministry of AYUSH. This area saw grandparents and children engaging in Omkara chanting and guided yoga sessions, showcasing a heartwarming intergenerational embrace of wellness.

Fit India Sundays on Cycle has transformed from a simple cycling program into a lively family fitness festival. Families and fitness enthusiasts enjoyed dedicated selfie booths, capturing memorable moments throughout the morning.

Engaging Activities for All Ages

The event included various activities such as giant dice games on life-sized Snake and Ladders boards, yoga sessions for seniors, badminton matches, and spirited games of tug-of-war, carrom, and chess. Energetic Zumba sessions had hundreds dancing together, while families eagerly lined up at selfie booths to document the day's excitement.

Rajesh Sharma, who attended with his family, remarked, "My children were busy playing games while my parents joined the yoga session. We rarely find a space where three generations enjoy fitness together." College student Ananya Verma added, "It felt more like a festival than an exercise program. There was Zumba, games, music, cycling, and more. Sunday morning was lit!"

Collaborative Efforts for a Healthier Future

Fit India Sundays on Cycle is organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) in partnership with various organizations, including the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), Indian Rope Skipping Federation, Yogasana Bharat, Raahgiri Foundation, MY Bikes, and MY Bharat. This cycling initiative is conducted simultaneously across all States and Union Territories, including SAI Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), SAI Training Centres (STCs), Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs), and Khelo India Centres (KICs).
