Fit India Sundays on Cycle Event at RK Beach

On Sunday morning, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) hosted the 63rd edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle at the renowned RK Beach in Visakhapatnam. This event attracted a vibrant crowd of citizens, youth, athletes, and fitness enthusiasts, all participating in the nationwide Fit India Movement initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Cycling Rally and Fitness Activities

The coastal event featured an extensive cycling rally along the picturesque beachfront, complemented by various fitness and cultural activities. Participants enjoyed sessions of Yogasana Bharat, rope skipping, Kudo martial arts demonstrations, Zumba warm-ups and cool-downs, along with performances from local cultural groups. Approximately 500 to 600 cyclists took part, promoting health, fitness, and community engagement.

Jinson Johnson Advocates for Fitness

Notable Indian athlete Jinson Johnson, a gold medallist in the 1500m and silver medallist in the 800m at the 2018 Asian Games, attended the event. He also secured a silver in the 1500m at the 2022 Asian Games, establishing himself as India's leading middle-distance runner. In an interview, Johnson stressed the importance of enhancing India's sports culture, advocating for at least an hour of daily exercise, and commended the Fit India initiative as a vital platform for promoting fitness. He stated, "India needs to improve its sports culture, and events like these will contribute to that. Fit India is certainly a significant platform for this, and the government is doing commendable work."

Government Support for Fitness Initiatives

Vishnu Kumar Raju, MLA of Visakhapatnam North, emphasized the government's commitment to promoting fitness in line with the Prime Minister's vision. He remarked, "Our PM aims for everyone in India to be fit and healthy, which is why numerous programs like this are being organized."

Overview of the 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' Initiative

Initiated in December 2024 by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, Fit India Sundays on Cycle has evolved into a significant public movement, engaging over 2.5 million citizens across more than 250,000 locations nationwide. This initiative is part of the broader Fit India Movement launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 29, 2019, aiming to integrate fitness into daily life and inspire a shift towards active living.

A Comprehensive Fitness Festival

The cycling event occurs weekly across all States and Union Territories, including SAI Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), SAI Training Centres (STCs), Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs), and Khelo India Centres (KICs). Additional activities such as yoga sessions by Yogasana Bharat, rope skipping displays, Kudo martial arts exhibitions, and cultural performances transform the morning into a holistic fitness festival rather than merely a cycling event.

With its dual themes of #FightObesity and #PollutionKaSolution, Fit India Sundays on Cycle continues to motivate citizens to embrace cycling as a sustainable, accessible, and community-oriented form of exercise.
