Fit India Sundays Event at Connaught Place
The 93rd edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle took place at the Inner Circle, Rajiv Chowk, Connaught Place, on Sunday. This event, organized in partnership with the Raahgiri Foundation, was themed 'With Swachh Bharat Abhiyan – Celebrating Raahgiri Day.' It attracted over 1,000 fitness enthusiasts, athletes, and community members, all united in promoting a healthy, active, and clean lifestyle.
Honoring Asian Games 2026 Medalists
A significant aspect of the event was the recognition of India's medalists from the Asian Games 2026, who were celebrated for their remarkable achievements at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. This acknowledgment aimed to inspire the youth to engage in sports and maintain an active lifestyle, as highlighted in a press release from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Media.
The event coincided with Gandhi Jayanti, reinforcing the themes of cleanliness and civic duty. It began with the honoring of distinguished guests and medalists, followed by participants taking the Nasha Mukt Bharat pledge to promote a substance-free lifestyle.
Presence of Notable Figures
Delhi Minister Ashish Sood and NDMC Chairman Manoj Kumar Dwivedi were among the dignitaries present. Notable athletes included Suchika Tariyal Hooda, the first-ever Asian Games MMA medalist; Jay Meena, the first-ever Asian Games medalist in Soft Tennis; and Naorem Roshibina Devi, an Indian Wushu champion and silver medalist at the Asian Games 2026.
Insights from Leaders and Athletes
During the event, Ashish Sood praised the Sundays on Cycles initiative, emphasizing its role in fostering community engagement and promoting a cleaner environment. He stated, 'The Swachh Bharat Mission is a true people's mission. When citizens actively participate in keeping their surroundings clean, it transforms into a genuine public movement.'
Suchika Tariyal Hooda expressed her appreciation for the Fit India platform, stating, 'It provides opportunities for children and individuals to engage in fitness activities. Seeing India finish fourth is a significant achievement, and I am optimistic about the future. Initiatives like Fit India can foster a healthier, drug-free society.'
Jay Meena shared his gratitude for the Fit India movement, which he believes has cultivated a strong fitness culture since its inception in 2019. He remarked, 'This historic medal is not just mine; it belongs to my fellow countrymen, the Government, SAI, my coaches, and my family. With ongoing support, I am confident India can secure all five gold medals at the upcoming Commonwealth Games.'
Naorem Roshibina Devi highlighted the importance of daily physical activity, stating, 'Everyone, including athletes and professionals from various fields, should dedicate time each morning to their health and fitness. Just 30 minutes of daily exercise can significantly enhance our lifestyle. A fitter India can only be achieved when each individual takes responsibility for their fitness.'
A Morning Filled with Fitness Activities
The fitness activities commenced early at 5:30 AM, with over 1,000 participants engaging in various activities such as yoga, Zumba, and rope skipping. Following these sessions, participants enjoyed a 5 km run and cycling around the venue.
