A groundbreaking leadership conference for the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) is scheduled to be held in the nation's capital, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to preside over the sessions. This high-level meeting, taking place in May, aims to address new challenges related to internal security in the context of India's rapidly evolving homeland security landscape.

Objectives of the Two-Day Event

The primary goal of this two-day event is to unite senior leadership from the CAPF, ensuring a cohesive strategy and coordination among these forces under the Ministry of Home Affairs. According to officials, the Intelligence Bureau (IB) will manage the logistics for this event, which may become an annual gathering similar to the meetings held for police directors and inspectors general. It is anticipated that top officials from both the Indian Police Service (IPS) and the CAPF cadre will participate. The final agenda is still being formulated, with discussions likely to focus on policy implementation, operational challenges, and strategies to tackle emerging internal security threats.

High-Level Attendance Expected

In addition to the Prime Minister, the event is expected to feature the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, and heads of major intelligence agencies. Officials indicated that the conference aims to create an integrated platform to enhance the coordination of CAPF efforts with state police forces and other security agencies, enabling a more effective response to national security issues.

Five Forces, One Platform

The five major CAPFs in India include the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Together, these forces contribute nearly one million personnel to the country's internal security framework. Their responsibilities encompass border security, VIP protection, counter-terrorism operations, safeguarding critical installations, and assisting states in maintaining law and order.
