In a remote village of Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir, a fire caused by an LPG cylinder explosion resulted in the destruction of five houses, with two individuals sustaining injuries while attempting to extinguish the flames, officials reported on Friday.


Details of the Incident

The incident occurred late Thursday night in Thachna village, where a fire ignited in one house and quickly spread to neighboring homes. Local authorities, including district administration, police, army, and fire department teams, collaborated with residents to combat the blaze.


Firefighting Efforts

Fire engines were dispatched promptly to the remote area, and LPG cylinders were removed from nearby houses to prevent further spread of the fire. Pankaj Sharma, the Deputy Commissioner of Kishtwar, stated that after several hours of effort, the fire was finally brought under control.


Casualties and Damage Assessment

Sharma mentioned, 'Four to five houses have been completely destroyed. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties. Two individuals were injured during the firefighting efforts and received first aid.' He also noted that tents and other relief materials have been provided to the affected community, and a detailed assessment of the damage will be conducted.


Community Response

The houses damaged in the fire belonged to Liaqat Mir, Bashir Ahmed, Alpha Mir, and Zibran Mir. Senior BJP leader Sunil Sharma stated that they are in contact with the affected families to discuss relief measures. Meanwhile, National Conference MP Sajjad Kichloo expressed his condolences and urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to ensure immediate assistance. Tarik Hamid Karra, president of the Jammu and Kashmir Congress unit, called on the administration to provide urgent relief, temporary shelter, and rehabilitation for the affected families, especially considering the harsh winter conditions.
