Indore, June 5: On Friday morning, a fire erupted at an Electric Vehicle (EV) showroom in Indore, leading to the successful rescue of over 20 individuals from six families who were trapped in the upper floors of the mixed-use structure.

Firefighters and police, with assistance from local residents, utilized ladders and ropes to facilitate the safe evacuation of those affected.

The blaze ignited around 8 A.M. in the showroom located on the ground level of the building near Khalsa Chowk in the Lasudia area.

Residents in the upper flats were awakened by smoke filling their rooms, causing breathing difficulties.

As flames surged from below, the escape routes were obstructed, leaving those on the upper floors stranded.

Upon hearing cries for help, neighbors from a nearby multi-story building quickly intervened. They set up ladders and ropes, guiding the trapped individuals to move to the rooftop.

A makeshift pathway was established by linking ladders between the two rooftops, with ropes secured to window frames and structural supports. Some residents managed to reach the neighboring building's roof via the ladders, while others descended using the ropes.

Fortunately, the fire did not extend to any residential units, and personal belongings remained intact. However, all electric two-wheelers stored in the showroom were lost to the flames.

Fire brigade officer Shobharam Malviya confirmed that there were no injuries reported from the incident.

“There were no casualties. The fire was fully extinguished within approximately an hour using two water tankers,” Malviya stated.

Initial investigations indicate that a short circuit may have triggered the fire, although a comprehensive inquiry is currently in progress.

“An investigation is ongoing,” he added, noting that all 20 residents were rescued unharmed.

Officials praised the prompt actions of local residents and fire services, which averted a potential disaster.

Despite the extensive damage to the showroom, the residential sections of the building remained unscathed.
