Incident Overview

Bilaspur:
The Himachal Pradesh Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Bumber Thakur, a former Congress MLA from Bilaspur, for allegedly attacking police and administrative officials during a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office two days ago.

Protest Without Authorization Leads to Disorder

The FIR, filed by Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shiv Chaudhary, states that Thakur organized the protest without the necessary permissions from local authorities. The situation escalated when police intervened to avert a potential law and order crisis, leading to chaos as Thakur and his supporters clashed with law enforcement.

ASP Shiv Chaudhary, along with SDM Rajdeep Singh and DSP Madan Dhiman, were present and requested Thakur to relocate the protest to a different area. However, this request was reportedly disregarded, resulting in a heated confrontation.

The protest's timing was particularly critical, coinciding with the arrival of BJP national president and Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda’s convoy, who was visiting the Deputy Commissioner’s office under Z-plus security. Authorities were concerned that tensions between the protesters and Nadda’s supporters could escalate into a serious security threat.

Video Evidence of the Confrontation

A video of the altercation quickly circulated on social media, depicting Thakur in a heated argument with ASP Shiv Chaudhary. In the footage, Thakur is seen pushing the officer and shouting, while the ASP warns him against using foul language and pushing him.

Despite the warning, Thakur continued to confront the officer, accusing the police of colluding with 'goons' and questioning why he was barred from submitting a memorandum regarding alleged drug issues.

Later, Thakur’s son, Ishan Thakur, posted a video claiming that individuals from Punjab had attempted to attack his father in Jabli (Solan) earlier this week.

Previous Controversies Surrounding Bumber Thakur

This incident is not Thakur's first brush with controversy; he previously survived a gun attack during Holi celebrations, which resulted in hospitalization. His son, Ishan, was arrested in connection with that incident but has since been released on bail.

Despite the serious allegations in the current case, Thakur insists he was only trying to submit a memorandum and claims he is being unfairly targeted. In the viral video, he questions, 'Why am I being stopped? An officer is openly roaming around with goons.'

Bilaspur Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar confirmed that a case has been filed and assured that a thorough and impartial investigation is underway.
