FIFA World Cup 2026 Broadcast Details Revealed for Indian Fans
FIFA World Cup Broadcast in India
Football enthusiasts can finally breathe easy! The suspense surrounding the broadcaster for the FIFA World Cup 2026 in India has come to an end. The key question now is: what will be the cost to view the matches?
Cost of Watching the World Cup
FIFA has confirmed that Zee Entertainment has secured the broadcasting rights for India. The agreement between FIFA and Zee is valued at an impressive ₹285-332 crore. This landmark deal not only encompasses the 2026 World Cup but also includes the broadcasting rights for the 2030 tournament. Matches will be shown on four newly launched channels.
New Channels and OTT Availability
A representative from Zee Entertainment stated that the popularity of sports, particularly live broadcasts, is on the rise in India. Consequently, the company is investing in sports by launching these new channels: Unite8 Sports 1, Unite8 Sports 1 HD, Unite8 Sports 2, and Unite8 Sports 2 HD. For those who prefer OTT platforms, the matches will also be accessible via the Zee5 app.
Subscription Fee Information
Two of the channels will provide English commentary, while the other two will offer Hindi commentary. For television viewing, viewers should reach out to their local cable operators. DTH users will need to contact their service providers. The expected pricing for the channels is between ₹10-20 each, although this may vary.
Digital Viewing Costs
However, accessing the games through a digital platform or OTT app will incur higher costs. To view the World Cup on the Zee5 app, fans must purchase a three-month subscription plan called the 'Z5 All Access + Sports Pack,' priced at ₹799. A one-year plan will cost ₹1699. Both options will provide access to additional content on the platform beyond just the World Cup. The Zee5 app and website have already set up a dedicated section for the FIFA 2026 World Cup.
Future FIFA Events Broadcast
Additionally, the Zee Group will broadcast other significant FIFA events until 2034. This includes various tournaments such as the FIFA Men's U-17 World Cup, FIFA Women's U-17 World Cup, FIFA U-20 Men's World Cup, FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, FIFA Futsal Men's and Women's World Cups, and the FIFA Women's World Cup.
Broadcast Operations
Sources indicate that the broadcast operations will be conducted from Zee's studio located in Lower Parel, Mumbai. The entire Production Control Unit, along with all producers and crew members, will operate from this location. Pre-match, mid-match, and post-match shows and analyses will also be produced from the Mumbai studio.
