FC Goa Secures Important Win

In a thrilling encounter at the PJN Stadium in Margao, FC Goa emerged victorious against Odisha FC with a score of 3-1 in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26. Goals from Dejan Drazic, Pol Moreno, and Brison Fernandes sealed the win for the Gaurs, while Suhair VP scored a late consolation for Odisha.

This victory marked a return to form for FC Goa, who had previously faced a series of draws and a loss, allowing them to climb to fifth place in the league standings with 13 points. Conversely, Odisha FC fell to 12th place, managing only five points. Ayush Chhetri was recognized as the Player of the Match for his impressive performance in midfield.

Cautious First Half

FC Goa's head coach, Manolo Marquez, made four changes to the starting lineup, giving a debut to 21-year-old goalkeeper Bob Jackson Raj. Mohammed Yasir, Harsh Shailesh Patre, and Ayush Chhetri were also included in the midfield. In contrast, Odisha FC's coach, T.G. Purushothaman, opted for consistency, keeping the same lineup for the third consecutive match.

The first half was characterized by a cautious approach from both teams, with limited clear chances created. Rahul KP was particularly active for Odisha, testing the Goa defense with two early attempts. The hosts struggled with offside calls while trying to mount attacks. Odisha continued to threaten from long range, with Rahul forcing a save from debutant goalkeeper Bob Jackson, who displayed composure. At the other end, Udanta Singh nearly scored after a strong run into the box, but Amrinder Singh thwarted his effort. Set-pieces offered opportunities for both sides, yet the half concluded without any goals.

Exciting Second Half

The second half saw an increase in tempo, with Odisha nearly taking the lead around the hour mark. Rahim Ali's clever run created space for Isak Vanlalruatfela, but Bob Jackson made a crucial save to keep the score level.

FC Goa responded quickly, breaking the deadlock in the 62nd minute through a well-executed play. Ayush Chhetri delivered a precise ball over the Odisha defense to Dejan Drazic, whose shot was deflected by Carlos Delgado, allowing Drazic to calmly finish past Amrinder, giving Goa a 1-0 lead.

With the momentum shifting in their favor, Goa continued to press forward. Substitute Abdul Rabeeh added energy to the attack, assisting Aakash Sangwan, whose shot was saved. Rabeeh also attempted a long-range effort but missed the target.

The hosts doubled their lead in the 81st minute from a set-piece. Pol Moreno took a free-kick from distance, striking a low shot that bounced before finding the bottom-left corner, making it 2-0.

In stoppage time, Goa secured their victory when Rabeeh was fouled in the penalty area. Brison Fernandes stepped up to convert the penalty, placing his shot into the left corner for a 3-0 lead. Odisha managed to score a consolation goal shortly after, with Suhair VP finishing from close range following a cross from Edwin Vanspaul, ending the match at 3-1 in favor of FC Goa.
