FC Goa Set to Face Sporting Club Delhi in ISL Showdown
FC Goa Gears Up for ISL Clash with Sporting Club Delhi
On Wednesday, FC Goa will resume their Indian Super League 2026-27 campaign by hosting Sporting Club Delhi, who are eager to secure their first points after suffering two straight losses. The Gaurs have only played one match in the league thus far, which ended in a 1-1 draw against Chennaiyin FC. They are keen to regain their momentum following a break from domestic play that concluded with their exit from the AFC Challenge League, as stated in an official ISL press release.
Coach Gouramangi Singh Emphasizes Winning Importance
Head coach Gouramangi Singh highlighted the necessity of a victory, emphasizing that his team must exhibit the same level of intensity, dedication, and focus they expect from themselves. "Every match holds significance. Our encounter against Delhi is especially crucial for us. Now that we have returned from Asian competition, we aim to kick off with a win," he remarked. Forward Christian 'Chiki' Borrego has been in excellent scoring form, netting goals in his last four matches across various competitions. However, he prioritizes the team's success over personal achievements, stating, "I prefer scoring goals that lead to wins," underscoring Goa's collective goal as they prepare for their return.
Sporting Club Delhi Seeks to Recover
Sporting Club Delhi, on the other hand, is not to be underestimated. Their first two matches have followed a similar trend: they held a 2-1 lead against Bengaluru FC at halftime but ultimately lost 3-2, and they led Mohun Bagan Super Giant 1-0 before falling to a 2-1 defeat. Despite these setbacks, head coach Tomasz Tchórz remains optimistic about his team's performances. "I am very pleased with how the team played. We executed a strong first-half performance in Bengaluru, creating numerous chances against a formidable opponent, but unfortunately, we couldn't convert more opportunities into goals," he expressed.
Defender Acknowledges Need for Improvement
Defender Clarence Fernandes recognized the importance of maintaining leads, as SCD has let opportunities slip in both matches. "We need to learn how to maintain our advantage," he stated. This match also marks a return for SCD defender Sanatomba Singh Yanglem, who previously played for FC Goa. In their last encounter, the Gaurs triumphed 1-0 in February, with Dejan Dražić scoring the decisive goal. Bob Jackson Raj is anticipated to be available for Goa, while Harsh Patre and Aakash Sangwan are expected to be out for an extended period. The Gaurs will aim to leverage their home advantage, while SCD must demonstrate that they have learned from their initial challenges. At Fatorda, mere potential will not suffice.
