Fatal Shelling by Pakistani Military in Jammu and Kashmir: Casualties Reported

Tragic Incident in Uri

On Thursday night, shelling by the Pakistani military along the Line of Control in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir, resulted in one fatality and two injuries.

The Indian Army reported that Pakistani forces breached the ceasefire agreement, escalating tensions in the region.

In response to these ceasefire violations, the Indian military stated that a strong counteraction was executed.

Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi, the medical superintendent at the Government Medical College in Baramulla, confirmed that the hospital received three casualties from Uri, with one individual declared dead upon arrival. The other two patients are reported to be in stable condition.

The deceased has been identified as Nargis Bashir from Razarwani village in Uri.

Additionally, areas in North Kashmir's Kupwara district were also targeted by Pakistani shelling on Thursday evening.

A local resident from Tangdhar, who wished to remain anonymous, reported that the shelling commenced around 7 PM and persisted until 5 AM the following morning.

According to the resident, at least 14 homes sustained damage, with one house completely destroyed.

Although the Kupwara district administration had relocated thousands of residents from border villages to safer areas, many chose to remain behind to care for their properties and livestock.

Heavy shelling was also reported in Poonch district throughout the night, as confirmed by a district official who preferred to stay unnamed.

Areas such as Balakote, Mankote, Mendhar, and Mandi were specifically targeted, leading to damage to over a dozen homes and loss of livestock.

The official mentioned that damage assessments are currently underway, but there have been no reports of human casualties thus far.

On the same night, the Pakistani military also launched missile and drone attacks on Indian military installations in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur, according to New Delhi.

The Indian armed forces reportedly neutralized the threat posed by Pakistan using both kinetic and non-kinetic methods, as stated by the Integrated Defence Staff headquarters.

A blackout was enforced in several North Indian cities amid reports of Pakistani drones attempting to strike the Jammu region. Residents in Jammu reported hearing explosions and witnessing missile trails in the sky.

Blackouts were implemented in areas including Samba, Jammu, Baramulla, Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as Amritsar, Jalandhar in Punjab, and Bikaner in Rajasthan.

India's Border Security Force announced that they thwarted a significant infiltration attempt along the international border in Samba district shortly after midnight on Friday, following the Pakistani military's attacks on Indian military stations.
