Family Outraged Over Bail Granted to Alleged Conspirator in Indore Murder Case
Local Court's Bail Decision Shocks Victim's Family
The recent decision by a local court in Meghalaya to grant bail to Sonam Raghuwanshi has left the family of the deceased, Raja Raghuwanshi, from Indore in a state of shock and anger. On Tuesday, the family raised serious concerns regarding the police investigation and demanded that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) take over the murder case.
Upon hearing the news of Sonam's bail approval, Raja's family felt a significant blow. His mother, Uma, expressed her disbelief to reporters, stating that Sonam is allegedly the main conspirator in her son's murder and questioned how she could be granted bail. Uma remarked that the Meghalaya police had conducted a thorough investigation over the past nine months, yet she found it incomprehensible how the situation could change so drastically in just a month or two. She insisted, 'We only ask the government for justice for my innocent son. I want a CBI investigation into this case.'
Family Plans to Challenge Bail Decision
Raja's elder brother, Vipin, announced that the family intends to contest the lower court's bail ruling in the Meghalaya High Court. He noted that during the court proceedings, Sonam's lawyer argued that the Meghalaya police had failed to properly inform his client of the specific reasons for her arrest, thereby violating legal protocols.
Vipin also expressed concerns about potential manipulation in the investigation, stating that the prosecution has yet to provide them with a copy of the charges or a proper opportunity to review them. Authorities revealed that Sonam was arrested on June 9, 2025, in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, on charges of conspiring to murder her husband, Raja Raghuwanshi, and had been held in judicial custody at the Shillong district jail for over ten months.
Background of the Case
The Raghuwanshi family is involved in the transport business. Sonam and Raja were married on May 11 and left for their honeymoon in Meghalaya on May 20. Tragically, Raja went missing during their honeymoon, and his body was discovered on June 2 near a waterfall in the Sohra area of East Khasi Hills, also known as Cherrapunji. Alongside Sonam, Raj Kushwaha, Sonam's alleged lover, and three of Kushwaha's friends were also arrested in connection with the murder case.
