Families Demand Transparency in Ahmedabad Plane Crash Investigation
Ongoing Grief for Victims' Families
Ten months have passed since the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad, yet the anguish of the affected families remains palpable. Recently, these families reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to release the cockpit voice recorder and black box data related to the incident.
Overview of the Incident
On June 12, 2025, Air India flight AI 171 took off from Ahmedabad, bound for London. Just minutes after takeoff, the aircraft crashed into the grounds of a medical college hostel. This devastating accident claimed the lives of 241 out of the 242 passengers on board, along with 19 individuals on the ground.
Appeal from Grieving Families
On Saturday, around 30 grieving families gathered in Ahmedabad. In their letter to PM Modi, they requested the release of the black box data to uncover the true cause of the crash. The families expressed their desire to understand what transpired that day, questioning whether it was a technical failure or something else.
Letters Sent to Authorities
The families have also sent copies of their letter to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, and Gujarat's Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. The letter emphasizes that if the data cannot be made public, it should at least be shared privately with the victims' families.
A Father's Heartfelt Plea
Nilesh Purohit, who lost his 24-year-old son in the crash, expressed that no amount of compensation can fill the void left in their home. With deep emotion, he stated, 'We do not want money; we just want to know the true reason behind our loved ones' deaths.'
