Record High Temperatures in Akola and Vidarbha

In Akola, Maharashtra, the temperature soared to a staggering 46.9 degrees Celsius, marking the highest in the country, as reported by meteorological officials on Monday. Other regions in Vidarbha, including Nagpur, are also experiencing severe heat conditions.


According to officials, a heatwave is expected to persist in parts of Vidarbha until Tuesday, with maximum temperatures projected to reach between 45 and 46 degrees Celsius. In some remote areas, temperatures could even hit 47 degrees Celsius.


The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Nagpur confirmed that Akola recorded the highest temperature in India on Sunday at 46.9 degrees Celsius.


Following closely was Amravati, where the temperature reached 46.8 degrees Celsius. Additional readings included 46.4 degrees Celsius in Wardha, 46 degrees Celsius in Yavatmal, 45.4 degrees Celsius in Nagpur, and 45 degrees Celsius in Chandrapur.


Dr. Praveen Kumar, a scientist at RMC, stated that districts such as Akola, Amravati, Wardha, Yavatmal, Chandrapur, and Nagpur are facing extreme heat, while several other districts are also recording above-normal temperatures.


Weather Alerts and Future Forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Akola, Amravati, and Wardha, while a Yellow Alert has been declared for Nagpur, Chandrapur, and Yavatmal.


According to the department, relief from the heat is anticipated after Tuesday, with temperatures expected to drop by two to three degrees Celsius. Additionally, forecasts indicate the possibility of rain and strong winds in the coming days.
