Srinagar Experiences Explosive Incidents

Srinagar: On Saturday, a missile-like object plunged into Dal Lake, causing a series of loud explosions that sent shockwaves through the city.

Authorities confirmed that the object was retrieved from the lake and is currently under investigation.

Additionally, another suspicious item was found in the Lasjan region of Srinagar, which is also being examined.

The city of Srinagar and Jammu experienced ongoing explosions, leading to widespread panic among residents seeking information about the disturbances.

Tragically, five individuals lost their lives due to indiscriminate shelling from Pakistan, including Raj Kumar Thapa, the Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) of Rajouri, and a woman named Rashida Bi.

In the R.S. Pura area of Jammu, a man named Ashok Kumar was killed by shrapnel, while two residents from Bihar, a two-year-old boy and a 36-year-old man, were also among the fatalities in the Mendhar region of Poonch district.

Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, expressed his sorrow on social media, stating, "I have reviewed the security situation in border districts. I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to unprovoked shelling from Pakistan. We have lost brave citizens, including our ADDC Rajouri, Dr. Raj Kumar Thapa, in the line of duty. My heartfelt condolences go out to the grieving families."

In a related incident, a drone was intercepted and shot down by the air defense system at the old airfield in Srinagar amidst the chaos of the explosions.

Witnesses reported hearing two significant blasts near the Srinagar airport around noon.

Officials confirmed that the drone, which was hovering over the old airfield, was successfully neutralized by the air defense system.

Further updates are anticipated as the situation develops.

Former Chief Minister and PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti commented on social media, noting that despite initial statements from U.S. Vice President Vance about limited American intervention in the escalating India-Pakistan tensions, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has now reached out to the Pakistani Army Chief, advocating for de-escalation. She emphasized that India, as the world's largest democracy and an emerging global power, should not depend on inconsistent international support but should instead take the lead in promoting peace in the region, showcasing its strength through diplomacy rather than military might.
