Explosions in Manipur's Bishnupur District Injure Two Individuals
Explosions Rock Bishnupur District
On Monday, two individuals sustained injuries due to explosions in the Bishnupur district of Manipur, as reported by local authorities.
The initial blast occurred at approximately 5:40 AM in an abandoned residence located in the Phougakchao police station vicinity. Authorities suspect that an improvised explosive device was responsible for the incident.
The homeowner and their family have been residing in a relief camp since the onset of ethnic tensions.
Reports indicate that a second explosion took place between 5:40 AM and 5:55 AM, further heightening concerns in the area.
This house had been deserted since ethnic clashes erupted between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo-Hmar communities in May 2023, resulting in over 260 fatalities and displacing more than 59,000 individuals.
Violence has sporadically flared up in the region throughout 2024 and 2025.
Since February 2025, the state has been under President’s Rule following the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
While the Kuki community holds a majority in the hill districts, the Meitei community predominates in the valley areas, including Bishnupur.
The final explosion occurred around 8:45 AM, approximately 200 meters from the first blast, as residents had gathered in response to the earlier incident.
Injured individuals, identified as Sanatomba Singh and Indubala Devi, were transported to a medical facility and are reportedly in stable condition.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the explosions.
Following the blasts, tensions escalated as residents clashed with security personnel who arrived at the scene.
