Explosion Near Patiala Railway Track Raises Security Concerns
Incident Overview
A shocking incident has emerged from the Patiala district of Punjab. Late Monday night, an explosion occurred on the Shambhu-Ambala railway section, damaging the railway tracks. Authorities reported on Tuesday that a dismembered body of an unidentified individual was discovered near the explosion site, prompting security agencies to heighten their alert status.
The explosion took place around 10 PM near the railway tracks, which are primarily used for freight trains. Following the incident, senior police officials, including the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) and the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Patiala, arrived at the scene. Teams from the Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force also joined the investigation, along with forensic experts who collected samples.
Investigation and Previous Incidents
According to local police, SSP Varun Sharma stated that a low-intensity explosion occurred. When questioned about the body found near the tracks, he confirmed that an investigation is underway and noted that the body was in a mutilated condition.
Earlier in January, a similar incident took place in Sirhind, located in the Fatehgarh Sahib district of Punjab, where an explosion occurred on a railway track designated for freight trains. This incident happened on January 24, just two days before Republic Day, injuring the locomotive pilot.
Unverified Claims and Safety Measures
The injured locomotive pilot was identified as Anil Sharma. Reports indicated that the train involved was on a 'footplate inspection' journey from Gobindgarh to Sirhind.
Unverified reports circulating on social media suggested that the attack was carried out by a banned terrorist organization, 'Khalistan Zindabad Force.' However, police officials have denied confirming these claims and stated that an investigation is ongoing.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (Rupnagar Range) Nanak Singh mentioned, "We received information about a minor explosion last night... The locomotive pilot sustained a minor cut on his cheek but is now out of danger."
