Explosion in Damascus Cafe Claims Lives and Injures Many
Tragic Blast in Central Damascus
Reports indicate that an explosion at a cafe in the Al-Marjah district of Damascus has resulted in the deaths of at least five individuals, with 16 others sustaining injuries. The incident occurred on Thursday at a cafe located on Al-Nasser Street, as confirmed by the Syrian state news agency SANA. The Syrian Ministry of Health reported that among the injured, ten were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
Dr. Ahmed Al-Bakour, who oversees Ambulance and Emergencies at the Health Ministry, verified that four fatalities and ten injuries were linked to the blast. This cafe is situated near the Palace of Justice, close to the Hejaz railway station and Al-Marjah Square, a bustling area in the capital.
State television in Syria attributed the explosion to a bomb, although further details regarding the attack remain scarce, and no group has claimed responsibility as of yet.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that the cafe is a popular spot for lawyers in the city. Security forces have cordoned off the area, and the injured individuals have been transported to a nearby medical facility. Since the fall of President Bashar al-Assad in late 2024, Damascus has experienced a limited number of attacks. His removal by Ahmed al-Sharaa, the current president, alongside rebel forces, marked the end of a prolonged civil war lasting 14 years.
In a related incident, a car bomb explosion on May 19 outside a defense ministry building in Damascus resulted in the death of one Syrian soldier and injuries to at least 18 others.
