The Legend of Ratangarh Wali Mata Mandir

Approximately 400 years ago, the Muslim ruler Alauddin Khilji imposed severe oppression on the people and restricted access to water from the Senwada to Ratangarh.

In response, Princess Mandula, daughter of King Ratan Singh, along with her brother Kunwar Ganga Ramdev, strongly opposed Alauddin, leading to an attack on the fort within the temple premises.

Mandula, known for her beauty, and her brother took refuge in the forest to escape the invaders, which ultimately led to the establishment of the Ratangarh Wali Mata Mandir.

Kunwar Baba's Power Over Poison

Adjacent to the temple of Ratangarh Wali Mata is the shrine of Kunwar Baba. It is believed that Kunwar Ganga Ramdev would encounter venomous creatures during his hunts, which would release their poison.

Tradition holds that if someone is bitten by a poisonous animal or snake, they invoke Kunwar Baba's name and visit the temple the day after Bhai Dooj or Diwali.

Interestingly, upon bathing in the Sindh River, the afflicted person often loses consciousness and must be carried to the temple, where they are miraculously healed by the water.

This temple stands as a testament to Chhatrapati Shivaji's victory over the Mughals. It is said that Ratangarh Wali Mata and Kunwar Maharaj inspired Shivaji's guru, Ramdas, during a visit to Devgarh, motivating him to fight against the Mughals.

Following the Marathas' significant victory over the Mughals, Shivaji Maharaj commissioned the construction of this temple in Ratangarh, which is renowned for its miraculous powers.
