Bharmour – Addressing the growing worries regarding premature leaf drop in apple orchards, a dedicated team from Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Saru, along with horticulture officials, carried out a thorough examination in the tribal areas of Bharmour. Scientists Dr. Jaya Chaudhary and Dr. Sushil Dhiman, alongside expert Dr. Manohar Lal from the Horticulture Department, visited various villages such as Holi, Deol, Nayagra, Shivnagari, and Kulait.

The collaborative team assessed signs of early leaf fall, which are believed to be linked to Marssonina Leaf Blotch. During their visit, they noted visible infections in multiple orchards and engaged directly with local farmers to discuss effective disease management techniques.

Dr. Manohar Lal raised alarms about the current weather conditions potentially exacerbating the risk of Alternaria infections, which could significantly hinder apple growth and diminish yields. He urged farmers to adhere closely to the departmental spray schedule to mitigate fungal spread and avert long-term harm to both trees and fruit size.

The team highlighted that orchards left untreated might face challenges in the upcoming cropping cycle and encouraged orchardists to take prompt action. Farmers appreciated the experts’ practical guidance and expressed their gratitude for the support provided in the field.

This proactive initiative underscores the importance of agricultural science in protecting crop health in high-altitude tribal regions, where shifting weather patterns present distinct challenges.
