Expert Team Arrives to Combat Gas Well Fire in Konaseema District
Fire at Gas Well Under Control
An expert team from the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is arriving in Konaseema district to extinguish a fire that erupted at a gas well. This information was confirmed by an official on Tuesday.
The official noted that the intensity of the fire has decreased compared to Monday.
The blaze ignited on January 5 at 12:40 PM, following a gas leak at the Mori-Panch well, which is not operated by ONGC but by Deep Industries Limited, a production enhancement contractor based in Ahmedabad. Flames were reported to reach heights of 20 meters near the villages of Mori and Erasumanda.
T. Nisanthi, the joint collector of Konaseema, stated that firefighters have set up a 'water umbrella' to lower the temperature, although flames are still visible. The expert team will assess the situation upon arrival and implement necessary measures to extinguish the fire.
She added that water is being sprayed on all nearby trees to prevent the spread of flames.
Efforts to Control the Blaze
Nisanthi mentioned that the fire's intensity has lessened since Monday, expressing hope that it will be brought under control soon. She emphasized that all efforts are being made to manage the situation.
Regarding how long it will take to completely extinguish the fire, she indicated that teams will first evaluate the situation before providing an estimate.
Officials from revenue, police, and the fire department are collaborating with ONGC, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and Red Cross personnel to tackle the fire.
For safety reasons, approximately 600 residents from three nearby villages were evacuated to safer locations on Monday.
