Significant Increase in Medical Education Opportunities

In a major advancement for medical education in Jammu and Kashmir, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved an increase of 50 MBBS seats at the Government Medical College (GMC) in Srinagar. An official spokesperson announced this pivotal decision, which will provide substantial relief to aspiring medical students.


With this new approval, the total number of MBBS seats at GMC Srinagar will rise to 250 for the upcoming academic year 2026-27, up from the current 200. The Health and Medical Education Department stated that this increase in annual admission capacity, sanctioned by the NMC, will further strengthen the medical education framework and overall healthcare system in Jammu and Kashmir.


It is noteworthy that last year, GMC Srinagar was granted an additional 20 seats. Officials believe that this ongoing increase in seats has further enhanced the reputation and standing of GMC Srinagar among the country's leading medical colleges.
