Exciting News for Beer Lovers: British Beer Prices Set to Drop
Summer Beer Consumption on the Rise
During the summer months, beer consumption tends to increase significantly, often leading to shortages of favorite brands in stores. However, there's no need for disappointment anymore. If you enjoy a cold beer during the hot season, this news is sure to brighten your day.
Following a recent trade agreement between India and the UK, substantial reductions in import duties on British beer and Scotch whisky have been announced. This means that a beer that previously cost 200 rupees could now be available for just 50 rupees.
On May 6, a free trade agreement (FTA) was established between India and the UK, which has reduced the tax on imported beer from 150% to 75%. As a result, British beer brands are expected to be available at more affordable prices. The Indian beer market is projected to reach around 50,000 crores by 2024, with its popularity likely to increase due to changing lifestyles and social culture. The highest beer consumption in India is observed in southern states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. Additionally, Goa is a significant hub for beer due to its relaxed alcohol laws and tourist influx. Northern cities like Delhi and Chandigarh also show considerable beer consumption.

Impact of the FTA
Under the FTA, not only beer but also the import duty on Scotch whisky from the UK has been reduced from 150% to 75%. However, no concessions have been made on British wine, meaning wine prices will remain unchanged. This development allows British beer to be sold at lower prices in India, directly benefiting beer enthusiasts. Furthermore, this agreement is expected to strengthen the trade relations between India and the UK.
