The much-anticipated Durand Cup is set to commence on July 25, marking its 135th edition. This year's tournament will launch with the iconic Kolkata Derby, a match that divides Bengal and showcases one of Asia's most storied football rivalries.
The fierce competitors, Mohun Bagan and East Bengal, will clash at Kolkata's Yuba Bharati Krirangan on Saturday, July 25, starting at 5 PM. In a significant update, the Durand Cup organizers have revealed ticketing details for this electrifying encounter.
Ticketing Details for the Kolkata Derby
During a press conference held at Fort William, the Indian Army's Eastern Command headquarters in Kolkata, it was disclosed that each club, Mohun Bagan and East Bengal, will receive 5,000 tickets for their supporters.
Major General Dinesh Kumar Singh and Lieutenant General Gambhir Singh represented the Indian Army at the event. The Durand Cup is a collaborative effort between the Indian Army and the state government, with Rajesh Pandey, Additional Chief Secretary for Sports, Youth Welfare, and Cooperation, and Dr. Indranil Khan, the state's Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare, also in attendance.
Potential Inauguration by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari
Sports Minister Dr. Indranil Khan expressed enthusiasm, stating, "During the World Cup, we all supported teams like Brazil, Argentina, Spain, or Portugal. Now, it's time to unite and support our own football clubs. Let's enjoy the matches together from the stands for an unforgettable experience."
He reassured fans about the arrangements, emphasizing that drinking water will be available for everyone, from supporters to VIPs, ensuring equality. "I will personally oversee this. The match timings are convenient, and we have coordinated with the transport department to provide additional buses for easy travel home," he added.
Dr. Khan also mentioned, "If everything proceeds as planned, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari will inaugurate the 135th Durand Cup."
