Announcement of Postponement

On Wednesday, the Esports Foundation (EF) revealed that the inaugural Esports Nations Cup (ENC), which was set for November 2026 in Riyadh, will now take place in November 2027. This decision comes after careful evaluation of the regional situation and discussions with key stakeholders.

Ensuring a World-Class Event

Due to the ENC's significant international scope and the prevailing uncertainties, EF has determined that rescheduling the event to November 2027 is the most prudent choice. This move aims to provide the stability and assurance that National Teams, publishers, partners, and fans expect. The ENC will feature teams and stakeholders from over 100 countries and territories. According to a press release from the Esports Foundation, Saudi Arabia is still well-equipped to host events, with major sporting and entertainment activities proceeding as planned.

Commitment to Esports Development

This postponement does not alter EF's dedication to the ENC or the national esports ecosystems being developed around it. All existing commitments under the ENC Development Fund for National Team Partners will remain intact. The Development Fund and related programs will continue, alongside ongoing collaborations with publishers, National Team Partners, and other stakeholders. EF will engage directly with partners regarding the implications of the new timeline and the transition to the inaugural competition in 2027.

CEO's Statement

"The choice to delay the Esports Nations Cup was not made lightly," stated Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports Foundation. "The feedback from National Team Partners, publishers, players, and global communities has highlighted the immense potential of this competition. We owe it to them to deliver the inaugural ENC under optimal conditions and at the level this initiative deserves. Hosting the tournament in Riyadh next year does not diminish our commitment. We will persist in investing in our National Team Partners, collaborating with publishers, and nurturing the national ecosystems forming around the competition. Our ambition for the ENC remains steadfast," he added.

Looking Ahead for the Esports Nations Cup

The ENC has gained remarkable traction globally, with over 100 countries and territories across all continents already securing official partner status. This event will unite the world's top players across various game titles. Designed to enhance the existing esports ecosystem, the ENC aims to forge new pathways for athletes, bolster national esports development, and cultivate new forms of fandom through national pride and international competition.

In the upcoming weeks, EF will continue to collaborate closely with National Team Partners, publishers, and other stakeholders to clarify the updated competition calendar, qualification pathways, and other aspects related to the new timeline.
