The law and order situation in Bihar is increasingly alarming, with the fourth shooting incident reported within just 24 hours. On Thursday, a 58-year-old man named Jitendra Kumar Mahto was shot dead in the Sultanpur police station area of Patna, causing widespread panic in the locality.
Lawyer Shot While Returning from Tea
According to Patna's East Superintendent of Police, Parichay Kumar, Jitendra Kumar Mahto was returning from having tea when he was attacked by unidentified assailants. Kumar stated, 'The criminals shot Jitendra Mahto. He was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.' Police recovered three bullet casings from the scene, and investigations are ongoing from all possible angles.
Victim's Background and Routine
Police officials revealed that Mahto was a lawyer, although he had not actively practiced law for the past two years. His family informed the police that he frequented the same spot for tea daily. SP Kumar noted, 'He came here for tea today and was shot while returning.'
Investigation Underway, Suspects Being Sought
Atulesh Jha, the Assistant Superintendent of Police for Patna City, also visited the crime scene. The Sultanpur police team is conducting an in-depth investigation. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has been notified, and police are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the attackers.

Recent Shootings in the State
Businessman Killed in Sitamarhi: In the bustling market of Mehsaul Chowk in Sitamarhi district, unknown assailants shot businessman Puttu Khan at close range in the head.
Veterinarian Shot in Patna: In Sheikhpura village of Patna district, veterinarian Surendra Kumar (50) was shot while irrigating his field. Officials reported that gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on him. He was found unconscious and severely injured, and villagers rushed him to Patna AIIMS, where he later died.
Grocer Murdered: In the Ramkrishna Nagar area, an unidentified assailant shot and killed grocer Vikram Jha. The police have initiated an investigation, but the motive behind the murder remains unclear. Alarmingly, no arrests have been made in any of these four cases so far.
