Disturbing Incident in Sylhet District

Dhaka: A troubling trend of violence against minority communities is intensifying in Bangladesh, as a Hindu residence was set on fire in the Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet district.

The incident occurred at the home of Birendra Kumar Dey, a school teacher, causing alarm among his family and neighbors.

Footage of the fire spread rapidly on social media, depicting the house engulfed in flames while family members attempted to escape.

Reports indicate that the attack on the Hindu household in Bahor village of Nandirgaon union was allegedly carried out by Islamist groups.

Earlier this week, another incident saw a Hindu man brutally murdered in Daganbhuiyan upazila of Feni district, according to local media.

The body of Samir Das, a 27-year-old auto-rickshaw driver, was found in a crop field in Jagatpur village on Monday.

Family members and police revealed that Samir had left home on Sunday evening but did not return, prompting a search by relatives.

His lifeless body was later discovered in a field, leading to police intervention.

This incident marks the ninth attack in just 24 days, underscoring a worrying rise in violence against Hindu communities in Bangladesh.

On January 9, India voiced serious concerns regarding the ongoing attacks on minorities, particularly Hindus, in Bangladesh, emphasizing the need for decisive action against such communal violence.

The surge in violence against minorities, including Hindus, has escalated under the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus, provoking outrage among citizens and human rights organizations worldwide.
