Escalating Tensions: Pakistan's Ceasefire Violations Continue in Jammu

Ongoing Hostilities Along the Border

Jammu: For the eighth consecutive day, the Pakistan Army has engaged in unprovoked small arms fire targeting Indian positions along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to a statement from the Defence Ministry, the incidents occurred during the night of May 1 and 2, with firing reported from various posts across the LoC in the Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Naushera, and Akhnoor regions.

In response, Indian Army personnel acted with a measured and appropriate response.

Additionally, ceasefire violations were reported on the International Border in the Pargwal sector of Jammu on Thursday.

Tensions have escalated following a tragic incident on April 22, where 26 civilians, including 25 tourists and a local resident, were killed by terrorists linked to Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) in Pahalgam's Baisaran meadow.

The nation expressed outrage over this heinous act, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowing to pursue the terrorists and their sponsors relentlessly.

The Prime Minister has granted the Armed Forces the authority to determine the timing, targets, and scale of their response to the Pahalgam attack.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held a 40-minute meeting with the Prime Minister on Monday, following a comprehensive briefing from the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) regarding military readiness.

Recently, Jammu and Kashmir's Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, conducted a security review with Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi in Srinagar.

The Lieutenant Governor urged the Army to employ necessary force to track down those responsible for the Pahalgam attack.

In a show of strength against terrorism, security forces have been demolishing the homes of terrorists. Last Friday, properties belonging to Adil Hussain Thokar and Asif Sheikh were destroyed in Tral and Bijbehara, respectively.

Both individuals were associated with the LeT group implicated in the Pahalgam killings.

To date, the homes of ten active terrorists in the Kashmir Valley have been demolished.

On Monday, the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly unanimously condemned the terrorist attack and passed a resolution in response.
