Football Star Ventures into Chess
Erling Haaland, the renowned football player, is making waves in the chess world by investing in Norway Chess and its innovative Total Chess World Championship Tour. His goal is to enhance the popularity of chess and make it more appealing to spectators.
Norway Chess has been at the forefront of chess innovation for years and is now embarking on a significant new journey with the introduction of the Total Chess World Championship Tour. This initiative has attracted a new strategic investor in the form of global football sensation Erling Haaland.
Haaland's New Chess Initiative
In collaboration with Norwegian entrepreneur Morten Borge, Haaland has co-founded Chess Mates, which will hold a substantial stake in Norway Chess.
"Chess is an amazing game that sharpens the mind. It shares similarities with football, requiring quick thinking, instinctual trust, and the ability to plan several moves ahead. Strategy and foresight are crucial," Haaland remarked.
"Ultimately, chess revolves around strategy and long-term planning," added Morten Borge. "These traits are also essential in elite sports and wise investments. Chess embodies the intersection of our worlds. I’ve even promised to provide Erling with some chess lessons!"
Haaland's Vision for Chess
With millions of fans globally, Haaland is already a sports icon and a perfect partner to attract new audiences and invigorate the chess community.
"I’m investing in Norway Chess because I believe the Total Chess World Championship Tour can elevate chess into a more prominent spectator sport worldwide. The team behind Norway Chess has done an impressive job expanding the event, and I couldn’t resist joining this exciting project," Haaland stated.
