Chief Justice Emphasizes Fair Mediation Practices

On Thursday, Chief Justice of India, B.R. Gavai, highlighted the importance of providing equal mediation opportunities for large corporations and small enterprises, particularly micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).


Speaking at the inauguration of the Delhi Mediation Weekend, he noted that India is maturing and evolving into a prominent mediator on the global stage.


He stated, “One area that requires attention is ensuring equal mediation opportunities between large corporations and small businesses, especially MSMEs. While legislative and policy initiatives have been promising and commendable, it is crucial to accelerate their implementation to benefit all stakeholders.”


Justice Gavai further remarked that this approach would pave the way for mediation to become a means of commercial efficiency rather than a source of prolonged disputes. The event also featured Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, Devendra Kumar Upadhyay, and Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia, Stephen Gageler, who shared the stage.
