Focus on Effective Enforcement and Awareness of Road Safety Rules Civil Society Participation in Road Safety Meetings to be Ensured

A session of the Parliamentary Constituency Road Safety Committee convened today at the Savings Bhavan, led by Lok Sabha MP Dr. Rajiv Bhardwaj. Dalhousie MLA D.S. Thakur also attended as a special guest.

During the meeting, Dr. Bhardwaj assessed various road safety measures and commended the district administration's ongoing efforts. He stressed the importance of enhancing awareness initiatives and called for greater involvement from civil society in road safety discussions. He proposed the inclusion of NGOs, local representatives, students, and transport unions to facilitate effective dialogue on practical issues and solutions.

The MP assured that concerns regarding crash barriers under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana would be addressed. He instructed officials to implement GPS and speed governors in school transport and emphasized the need for better promotion of the Rahveer Pradhan Mantri Relief Scheme and the MACT scheme.

Pointing out that a significant number of road accidents are due to human error, Dr. Bhardwaj urged both drivers and the public to adhere to traffic regulations and maintain speed limits. He directed the Sub-Divisional Manager of the State Road Transport Corporation and the Regional Transport Officer to ensure that both private and public buses operate strictly at designated pick-up and drop-off points, in compliance with traffic laws.

Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repswal provided a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation detailing the various road safety initiatives currently in place within the district.

The meeting also saw participation from Superintendent of Police Vijay Kumar Saklani, SDM Anil Bhardwaj, Chirag Sharma, Rajesh Jaryal, Surender Katoch, Ajay Kumar Singh, Superintending Engineer Jeet Singh Thakur, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jalam Singh Bhardwaj, MS Dr. Pradeep Singh, Executive Regional Transport Officer Sanjeev Sharma, along with officials from multiple departments.
