Specialized Training Program Launched in Nurpur

A three-day specialized training initiative titled “Evidence Collection, Preservation and Forwarding to Forensic Science Laboratories” commenced today at the Superintendent of Police's office in Nurpur, aimed at enhancing the scientific and judicial accuracy in criminal investigations.
This training is organized by the Directorate of Forensic Services (DFS) based in Junga, Shimla Hills, specifically for the investigating officers (IOs) from District Una and Police District Nurpur. Dr. Meenakshi Mahajan, the Director of Forensic Services in Himachal Pradesh, is overseeing the program.
Inaugural Session Highlights
The training was officially inaugurated by Shri Kulbhushan Verma (HPS), the Superintendent of Police for the Nurpur Police District. Special guests included Shri Dharm Chand Verma (HPS), Additional Superintendent of Police, and Shri Naseeb Singh Patial, Assistant Director of DFS Junga.
Objectives of the Training
The main goal of this program is to improve the knowledge and practical abilities of police personnel, enabling them to manage crime scenes with scientific accuracy. The training will focus on several key areas:
- Scientific Evidence Management: Utilizing modern techniques for evidence collection at crime scenes.
- Preservation of Evidence: Ensuring the integrity of biological, chemical, and ballistic evidence to prevent contamination.
- Legal Procedures: Correct methods for packaging, labeling, and preparing forwarding letters for forensic lab submissions.
Expert Instruction
Throughout the three-day program, from March 16 to 18, 2026, experts from DFS Junga, RFSL Dharamshala, and DFU Nurpur will provide lectures and practical demonstrations. A significant focus will be on the handling and documentation of trace evidence.
This training aims to ensure that all evidence collected by officers adheres to scientific and judicial standards, thereby reinforcing the prosecution process and ensuring that offenders face appropriate penalties.
