Security Preparations for International Workers' Day
In anticipation of International Workers' Day on May 1, the Gautam Buddha Nagar police have implemented extensive security measures throughout the district. Learning from the violent labor protests that occurred on April 13, the administration has enforced Section 163 of the Indian National Security Code (BNSS), previously known as Section 144, until May 8. The primary aim of this action is to maintain law and order while ensuring the smooth operation of industrial units. According to police reports, security has been significantly heightened at critical locations such as multinational corporations (MNCs), industrial facilities, and major intersections. Additionally, personnel from other districts have been deployed to assist.
Security Personnel Deployment
The police have detailed that the deployment includes six officers of SP rank, 14 additional SPs, 30 circle officers, 65 inspectors, 400 sub-inspectors, 150 female sub-inspectors, 900 constables, 200 female constables, and 10 companies from the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC). Furthermore, two DCPs, three additional DCPs, and four ACPs have also been assigned to this operation.
Monitoring via CCTV
The police have announced that a gazetted officer will be stationed in the control room to monitor the situation through CCTV footage. Drones will also be utilized for comprehensive surveillance.
Continuous Communication with Labor Organizations
Additional CP (Law and Order) Rajiv Narayan Mishra informed a news agency, "Over 50 drone points and CCTV cameras have been installed for monitoring. We are maintaining ongoing communication and coordination with industrial units and labor organizations." He further stated that Section 163 of the BNSS has been enacted to prevent the spread of rumors.
Officials have warned, "Strict action will be taken against those spreading rumors to ensure that Workers' Day and the following days remain peaceful, allowing workers and industrial units to operate smoothly."
April 13 Protests in Noida
On April 13, a significant protest erupted across Noida, where workers demanded higher wages and improved working conditions. The protests turned violent, resulting in vehicles being set ablaze and stone-pelting incidents at various locations.
To date, police have arrested 300 individuals in connection with the violence. Authorities have also indicated that suspects linked to Pakistan may have incited the violence through misleading posts on social media. The police are currently investigating this matter.
However, it is noteworthy that many employees of companies in Noida have reported improved working conditions and that their demands have been addressed.
