Comprehensive Security Preparations for New Year 2026

The Delhi Police have implemented extensive security and precautionary measures in the national capital in anticipation of New Year celebrations in 2026. This initiative focuses on crowded areas, traffic management, and maintaining law and order, as reported by officials on Wednesday. Senior officers, including six assistant police commissioners and an additional deputy commissioner, are closely monitoring the arrangements on the ground. Discussing the preparations, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Traffic) Dinesh Kumar Gupta stated that stringent measures have been put in place to ensure public safety during the festivities.


Traffic Regulations and Public Safety Initiatives

Gupta mentioned that an advisory has been issued, granting permits to restaurants hosting New Year parties. He emphasized that action will be taken against those violating traffic rules. The police urge the public to celebrate responsibly, adhere to traffic regulations, and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol. Continuous patrolling is being conducted, and approximately 14 parking areas have been established.


Multi-Layered Security Strategy in West District

Meanwhile, the West District Police have rolled out a comprehensive multi-layered security plan, which includes intensive deployment and preventive measures. According to officials, 1,469 police personnel have been assigned across the district to ensure smooth celebrations and public safety, including two companies of external forces. A press release indicated that in the last 48 hours, preventive actions led to the arrest of 697 individuals under various provisions of the Indian National Security Code (BNSC), while 1,252 individuals were detained under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act, and 146 vehicles were seized under Section 66 of the Act.


Focused Surveillance in High-Traffic Areas

Special attention is being given to crowded areas such as Rajouri Garden, Tilak Nagar, Subhash Nagar, Hari Nagar, Janakpuri, and Punjabi Bagh, where a significant influx of patrons is expected in restaurants, pubs, and clubs. The press release noted that effective monitoring and rapid response measures have been implemented in busy markets and other sensitive locations, including the deployment of lookout posts, special checkpoints, and barricades. Additionally, extensive patrols and deployments are being conducted through motorcycle and scooter patrols, emergency response vehicles (ERVs), foot patrols, and blockades at key points. The police are taking strict action against drunk driving during the celebrations and are closely monitoring noise pollution.
