Shahjahanpur Police Prepares for Kanwar Yatra

In Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, the police department is taking lessons from last year's incidents during the Kanwar Yatra. To ensure the safe conduct of this year's pilgrimage, an additional 500 police personnel have been deployed, and the entire route will be monitored through CCTV cameras. Devotees will collect Ganga water from Panchal Ghat in Farrukhabad and proceed to perform rituals at the Shiva Lingam in Gola Gokarnath.

Superintendent of Police Saurabh Dixit informed a news outlet that the deployment of extra officers aims to secure the safety of the pilgrims traveling to Gola Gokarnath. The police presence will include 1,100 constables, 210 sub-inspectors, 17 inspectors, seven police area officers, and 44 personnel on motorcycles.

Dixit mentioned that the Kanwar route spans approximately 90 kilometers within Shahjahanpur, equipped with 100 CCTV cameras linked to the control room in Bareilly. Additionally, 500 barriers will be set up along the route.

The Superintendent also stated that over 120 security committees have been formed in villages along the Kanwar path, engaging in discussions to assist the pilgrims and maintain communication with the police. Assistant Superintendent of Police (City) Devendra Kumar has been appointed as the coordinator for the Kanwar Yatra.

Special attention is being given to sensitive areas such as Allahganj and Kant to prevent any untoward incidents. According to Dixit, four incidents occurred last year, including a dispute between Kanwar pilgrims and a bus driver in Allahganj, which tragically resulted in the death of a pilgrim after being allegedly pushed by the driver.
