Increased Security for Delhi Assembly Speaker

In response to a series of bomb threat alerts targeting the Delhi Assembly, Speaker Vijender Gupta has been assigned Z-category security. This decision was made following multiple specific threats and a recent high-profile security breach, as stated by the assembly secretariat. Under the new security protocol, Gupta will receive round-the-clock protection from a specialized security team, along with a dedicated escort vehicle.

Since the commencement of the budget session on March 23, the secretariat and the Speaker's office have received approximately six to seven threatening emails. In a separate incident, an individual reportedly breached the assembly premises by breaking through a boundary gate, leaving a bouquet and garland near the Speaker's office before departing. Meanwhile, security measures within the New Delhi assembly complex are being significantly enhanced to ensure the safety of all members and staff, in coordination with security agencies.

Officials have indicated that steps are being taken to bolster security in the complex, including increasing personnel at entry points, deploying mobile patrol vehicles, and installing hydraulic road blockers. A unified command structure and multi-layered security system will also be established to prevent any future incidents. Previously, Gupta emphasized that any lapse in assembly security would be intolerable. The statement noted that immediate actions taken under the Speaker's directives include the installation of hydraulic road blockers at all entrances, strengthening access control checkpoints, and establishing a more effective ground security system within the premises.

He also instructed that all entry and exit points be significantly reinforced through improved conditions, stringent control protocols, and upgraded infrastructure, recommending the deployment of at least two personnel from the CRPF and Delhi Police at each entrance to ensure coordinated monitoring.
