Jorhat, June 12: Following intelligence reports indicating a potential threat to his safety, Akhil Gogoi, the president of Raijor Dal and MLA from Sivasagar, has seen a significant enhancement in his security measures, as he disclosed on Friday.
Gogoi mentioned that the government had received alarming information hinting at a conspiracy against him, which led to a reassessment of his security protocols and the addition of more security personnel.
Previously, he was already under protective measures, which included house guards and a pilot vehicle.
"Since the day before, my security has been bolstered with extra house guards and a pilot escort. I learned about the threat to my life and that certain individuals might be planning to target me. In light of this information, the government decided to enhance my security further," Gogoi informed the media.
He also noted that law enforcement is actively pursuing the matter and has detained several suspects.
"To my knowledge, authorities have received credible information regarding a conspiracy against me. The increase in security is not arbitrary. The police are treating this matter with utmost seriousness, and some suspects have already been taken into custody. Efforts are ongoing to locate others believed to be involved in the alleged scheme," he stated.
The Sivasagar MLA further revealed that police are on the lookout for a group of individuals purportedly connected to the threat.
"I have been informed that the police are attempting to track down approximately 15 shooters or hired attackers. Investigations are in progress, and security agencies are conducting operations based on the intelligence they have gathered," Gogoi added.
This situation arises as Gogoi remains at his home in Selenghat, near Mariani in Jorhat district, following the recent passing of his mother.
His residence has become a gathering place for supporters, party members, and well-wishers from across Assam, who have come to express their condolences.
As of now, authorities have not released an official statement regarding the specifics of the threat or the ongoing investigation.
