Lawrence Returns, Cox Promoted for Pakistan Series

England has welcomed back Dan Lawrence to their Test lineup after a two-year hiatus, while Jordan Cox has been assigned the pivotal No. 3 batting position for the upcoming three-match home series against Pakistan, following Jacob Bethell's injury.

Bethell's right knee injury has ruled him out of the series, allowing Cox to ascend the batting order after making his Test debut earlier this summer. The 16-member squad, revealed on Thursday, is set for the first two Tests starting at Headingley on August 19, as reported by Cricinfo.

Lawrence's return comes after an impressive County Championship season with Surrey, where he scored 788 runs at an average of 65.66, including five centuries, the highest in the competition. The 29-year-old is anticipated to bat at No. 6 and may also contribute valuable off-spin, filling the all-rounder role left vacant by Ben Stokes' retirement from international cricket.

Cox Steps Up; Pope and Carse Return

Cox, who made his debut at No. 7 during the second Test against New Zealand at The Oval earlier this year, will now have the chance to bat at first drop. Although he has only batted at No. 3 once in first-class cricket, the wicketkeeper-batter has experience opening the innings and is seen as one of England's promising young batting talents.

The squad also sees the return of Ollie Pope as the reserve wicketkeeper-batter after being dropped during last winter's Ashes series. Fast bowler Brydon Carse has made a comeback from wrist and elbow injuries, while seamer Sam Cook returns after his sole Test appearance against Zimbabwe last summer. Pacer Ollie Robinson, who took seven wickets in his return during the opening Test against New Zealand at Lord's, has also kept his spot.

England has decided not to bring back Sam Curran, who was considered for selection in Stokes' absence but was deemed unprepared for a return to Test cricket after a season marred by injuries.

Root Resumes Captaincy

The series against Pakistan will mark England's first under the leadership of Joe Root, who has taken over as Test captain following Stokes' retirement. This also represents the first squad selection under the new head coach Stephen Fleming, who participated in the selection process alongside Marcus Trescothick before officially taking charge later this summer.
