England's Players Gear Up for Test Series Against Pakistan with Warm-Up Match

Preparations for the Test Series

Emilio Gay, Shoaib Bashir, and Matthew Fisher are set to refine their skills ahead of England's Test series against Pakistan by participating in a three-day warm-up match for the Professional County Club Select XI. This match will take place at Beckenham starting Thursday.

Originally slated for Wednesday, the match was rescheduled by mutual consent to allow the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to field its strongest possible team for the upcoming Test, as reported by Cricinfo.

Player Updates

Emilio Gay is anticipated to be fully recovered from a shoulder injury sustained while playing for Durham in the One-Day Cup last week. He made a notable impact on his Test debut against New Zealand in June, scoring a half-century, and followed it with another fifty in the second Test at The Oval, concluding the series with an average of 23.16 across six innings.

Shoaib Bashir has had limited play recently, featuring in only two matches for Derbyshire in the One-Day Cup. However, England selector Marcus North has endorsed him as the top spinner available. It is unlikely that Bashir will play against Pakistan, as the team is expected to field four seamers and utilize Dan Lawrence's off-spin following Ben Stokes' retirement.

Matthew Fisher has had minimal match exposure, having bowled just 10 balls in The Hundred. He is one of seven seamers included in England's Test squad. His participation will depend on the performance of other fast bowlers in the Hundred, especially with Gus Atkinson, Brydon Carse, and Josh Tongue potentially advancing to the knockout stages, along with the possibility of Ollie Robinson missing the first Test due to paternity leave.

Pakistan's Arrival and Training

Pakistan has arrived in the UK following their drawn Test series against the West Indies in the Caribbean and has been training at Beckenham this week.
