England Dominates Sri Lanka in Second T20I

On Thursday, England triumphed over Sri Lanka by six wickets in the second T20I match held at Sophia Gardens, clinching a 2-0 lead in the three-match series. After limiting Sri Lanka to a score of 145/9 in their 20 overs, England successfully chased down the target in just 12.1 overs, finishing at 146/4.

This victory marks England's 14th consecutive win against Sri Lanka in T20 internationals.

Sri Lanka's Strong Start Falls Short

Sri Lanka began their innings positively, reaching 56 runs without loss during the powerplay. Pathum Nissanka was the standout performer, scoring 37 runs off 21 balls, which included four boundaries and a six. Lahiru Udara added 21 runs from 20 balls with five fours, while captain Charith Asalanka contributed 31 runs off 31 balls, hitting three fours. Wanindu Hasaranga provided a late boost with 27 runs off 22 balls, including two fours and a six, while Kamindu Mendis chipped in with 12 runs from eight balls.

For England, Liam Dawson was the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets for 32 runs in four overs. Jamie Overton and Jofra Archer also made significant contributions with figures of 2/23 and 2/34, respectively, with Archer celebrating his 50th T20I appearance. Sonny Baker impressed with 1 wicket for just 15 runs in four overs, including a maiden over.

Banton and Buttler Lead England to Victory

In response, England's opening pair set a solid foundation. Jos Buttler scored 30 runs off 16 balls, featuring four fours and a six, while Aneurin Donald added 21 runs off 13 balls with two fours and a six. Captain Harry Brook then accelerated the innings with a quick 23 runs off just eight balls, including one four and three sixes, before Tom Banton took charge of the chase.

Banton finished unbeaten on 52 runs from 24 balls, hitting two fours and four sixes, and achieved his fastest T20I half-century in just 24 balls. Jordan Cox contributed 12 runs off seven balls, including a six, while Will Jacks remained not out on 3 runs from six balls as England completed the chase with 47 balls remaining.

During his innings, Buttler also reached a significant milestone, becoming the first player to score 15,000 runs in T20 cricket.

Dawson was awarded Player of the Match for his impressive bowling performance. The final T20I is scheduled to take place at Old Trafford in Manchester on Saturday, with England having already secured the series.
