England Announces Squad for Upcoming Test Series Against India
England Men's Team Reveals 14-Player Squad
The selection panel for the England Men's cricket team has unveiled a 14-member squad for the inaugural Test match against India, scheduled to commence on Friday, June 20, 2025, at Headingley, as per the ECB's official announcement.
This Test series will unfold from June to August 2025, featuring matches at various venues including Headingley in Leeds, Edgbaston in Birmingham, Lord's in London, Old Trafford in Manchester, and The Oval in London. This series marks India's first bilateral engagement following the recent retirements of both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Test cricket.
Jamie Overton's Unexpected Comeback
In a surprising turn of events, Jamie Overton has been recalled to the England squad for the first Test against India, stepping in for his Surrey teammate Gus Atkinson, who is sidelined due to a hamstring injury.
Additionally, Jacob Bethell makes his return to the squad, while Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse are back after missing the recent victory over Zimbabwe due to minor injuries.
The England squad has seen considerable changes since their 4-1 series loss in India last year, with James Anderson retiring shortly after that tour, and Jonny Bairstow, Ben Foakes, and Ollie Robinson also being left out.
India's Squad Transition Ahead of England Tour
India is also experiencing a significant transition, with key players R Ashwin, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma retiring, and Shubman Gill stepping up as captain for the first time.
Having not secured a Test series victory in England since 2007, India has dispatched several squad members to compete for India A against the Lions, while the remainder of the touring party is set to arrive in the UK on Friday.
Before the Test series, India will engage in three matches against the England Lions, with the first unofficial Test concluding in a draw. The second unofficial Test is scheduled for Friday, June 6, at County Ground, Northampton.
