On Sunday morning, Olympic wrestler Geeta Phogat and world boxing champion Saweety Boora participated in a special women's edition of the Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative, aimed at encouraging fitness and an active lifestyle among women nationwide.


As reported by SAI Media, Geeta joined a gathering of 1,000 women at the Major Dhyanchand National Stadium in Delhi. This event is part of a weekly initiative launched by Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya. Geeta expressed her joy, stating, "I wish I cycled more often; I truly enjoyed today. It was heartening to see so many young mothers with their children and even elderly women cycling alongside me. Our Prime Minister initiated this Fit India movement, and today I realized it has genuinely become a People's Movement, with individuals taking fitness seriously."


Nationwide Participation Celebrates Women's Empowerment

The flagship event in Delhi featured prominent figures such as Geeta Phogat, boxer Saweety Boora, judoka and MTV Roadies finalist Priya Sharma, Fit India Icon Milind Soman, actress Ragini Dwivedi, and Fit India Champion Ankita Konwar. Across the nation, various women achievers, including Arjuna award-winning athletes, Dronacharya award-winning coaches, political leaders, and cultural icons, participated in the program, promoting fitness and health.

Boora highlighted the significance of this women's edition, stating, "A woman is the cornerstone of a family. If she maintains her health and fitness, she can better care for her family and contribute to the nation's growth by joining the workforce. It's encouraging to see women recognizing this and prioritizing their fitness."

The event kicked off with various activities, including yoga, Zumba, rope skipping, mallakhamb, and tug of war, becoming even more vibrant with Milind Soman's presence. As a Fit India Icon and founder of the Pinkathon women's marathon, Soman remarked that every woman present was already ahead in understanding the importance of physical activity. He engaged the audience with fitness challenges and even participated in a tug of war with attendees and dignitaries.

After an hour of enjoyable fitness activities, participants cycled around the iconic India Gate. She noted, "While sports are excellent for fitness, as women age, they may not engage in active sports but can certainly participate in events like these. The Fit India initiative has transformed our perception of fitness—it's easy, enjoyable, and can be done anywhere, anytime."
