Empowering Women Entrepreneurs in Janakpur Through Innovative Agricultural Training
Advancing Rural Development in Janakpur
The CSIR SMART VILLAGE Mission is making strides in grassroots development in Janakpur, Raisen, aligning with the Government of India’s vision of 'Viksit Bharat @2047'. From October 13 to 15, specialists from the CSIR–Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (CSIR-IHBT), based in Palampur, visited the village to enhance agricultural practices in floriculture and bolster rural livelihoods.
During their stay, the scientific team organized an extensive training session focused on dry flower technology and value addition. This initiative empowered over 30 local women with practical skills in flower dehydration, preservation, and the creation of innovative commercial products. The goal is to convert local floral resources into sustainable income sources for women entrepreneurs.
Moreover, the experts assessed ongoing field trials for cost-effective marigold cultivation initiated by CSIR-IHBT. Farmers received hands-on advice on pest control, optimal harvesting techniques, and post-harvest management to enhance flower quality and minimize yield losses.
Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav, Director of CSIR-IHBT, praised the initiative, highlighting the institute’s dedication to technology transfer and the empowerment of women. He encouraged the scientific team to maintain close ties with the community, ensuring that their efforts are customized to meet local needs and foster long-term livelihood opportunities.
This initiative represents a crucial advancement in merging science, innovation, and rural entrepreneurship, transforming floral resources into profitable ventures for the women of Janakpur.
